What He Has Given
One day while meditating on the single wonder of the Father’s desire to give us back, and fully restore, the authority and power Adam and Eve relinquished to Satan in the garden, a list of Scriptures began pouring out regarding even more of what He lavished on us. I also began realizing that each gift was limitless.
One of the first references that came to mind was the enormity of the gifts Holy Spirit inspired Paul to pen in chapters 1-3 of Ephesians. When I’ve taken the time to meditate on these chapters, the extravagance, love, and generosity of our Lord sends me past atmosphere and orbit.
Here’s a list of some of what’s in chapter one. I encourage you to move slowly through these phrases, taking a close look at each one. Let the reality of His will embed itself in the fibers of your being. Let His word renew and heal your heart, mind, soul, and body. Then enjoy unpacking and discovering even more in chapters two and three.
Ephesians chapter one:
He gave us grace and peace (v.2).
He blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (v.3).
He chose us in Him, before the foundations of the world, [to] be holy and without blame before Him in love (v.4).
He predestined us to adoption as sons. [And it was] according to the good pleasure of His will (v.5).
He made us accepted in the Beloved (v.6).
We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins [and it was] according to the riches of His grace, which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence (v.7,8).
He made known to us the mystery of His will, [which He did] according to His good pleasure [and] which He purposed in Himself (v.9).
In Him we have obtained an inheritance (v.11).
[After we trusted in Christ, we] were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance (v.13).
Then, after Paul listed all the gifts that the Godhead determined and accomplished for us, Holy Spirit lead him to pray:
…that the Father of glory [would give to us] the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him; [that] the eyes of [our] understanding [would be] enlightened [to all of this]; that [we] may know what is the hope of His calling, what are riches of the glory of His inheritance [in each of us], and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward [each of us] who believe…(vs. 17-19 emphasis added).
This is present tense. The limitless plans and purposes of our God toward us in this one chapter are not for a someday far, far away. It is our Father’s good pleasure that we realize them throughout the course of our lives, now.
And there’s more! What He has given us is:
